CALL FOR PAPERS/REGISTRATION

The theme of the Conference is “
Manuel Vryennios and his legacy in Byzantine Musical Culture”.

Any topic that meets the philosophy of the theme will be considered. Topics include, but are not limited to:

-Historical research on Manuel Vryennios and his life
-Vryennios' role in transmitting ancient Hellenic musical structures to Byzantium and the West
-Vryennios' influence and role in post-Byzantine theories of Byzantine chant
-Vryennios and the Chrysanthine reformation
-Chant during the times of Vryennios
-Musical Harmonics and theory before and after the time of Vryennios

There is a two-step process to participate as a presenter at the plenary sessions (October 10-13, 2013).


First, is by
submitting an abstract of no more than 500 words. Preface the abstract with your name, complete contact details (mailing address, telephone, email address), institutional affiliation (if applicable) and the title of your presentation.

A committee will evaluate the abstract and determine its suitability for presentation at the conference.

You will then receive the committee’s decision.

THE
ABSTRACT SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS AUGUST 20, 2013.

Second, should the committee review your abstract favorably you will be requested to submit a registration fee of 60 euro by cheque or bank transfer to be received before September 15, 2013. Registration after this date must be accompanied by a fee of 80 euro. If payment is not received by the 5th of October 2013, your submission will be struck from the conference.

The presentations, at the conference, are limited to 20 minutes including a short question and answer period after each presentation. Ensure that the time is accordingly respected.

The presentations and the presenters will be videotaped and all videos will be published in an appropriate and freely-accessible website of the Society.

Full papers will be due no later than February 20, 2014 and are limited to 50 pages including figures, tables, images. Full papers must be submitted as Word documents with Palatino Linotype Font with no less than 11 point size. Papers that do not fulfill this requirement will be returned to the author(s) for the appropriate revision. After the deadline, any submission will not be published in the future Proceedings.
